When spring break ended on April 13, 2026, Assistant Principal of Safety and Security Brian Moran returned to Stuyvesant for the first time since early June 2025. He was placed on leave following an incident of antisemitic graffiti being found in the boys’ second-floor bathroom in late May 2025.
The school administration was first made aware of the graffiti the week of May 19 and sent out an email condemning the vandalization on Friday, May 23. The school subsequently implemented a sign-in policy to the boys’ bathrooms throughout the building for the remainder of the school year. Principal Seung Yu sent another email later that night directly addressing the antisemitic nature of the graffiti.
Over the weekend, the incident gained attention on Instagram when anonymous accounts which claimed to be connected to the creation of the graffiti surfaced. The New York Post also released an article on Saturday afternoon regarding the matter, claiming that Stuyvesant was “covering up” the antisemitic nature of the incident.
When students returned to school on May 27 after Memorial Day, then-senior Muhib Muhib (‘25), who had been independently investigating the situation and had been impersonated by one of the anonymous Instagram accounts, met with Moran to discuss the situation. Moran was placed on leave shortly after their meeting.
Throughout the first part of the 2025-2026 school year, Moran’s duties were split between Assistant Principal of Biology, Physics, and Computer Science Marianne Prabhu, who worked with the Health department, and Assistant Principal of Chemistry, Technology, and Art & Music Scott Thomas, who advised Physical Education teachers.
Since Moran’s return, he has assumed his regular duties. His first day back coincided with a school evacuation during periods five and six due to a non-specific threat. When asked about his leave of absence, he said in an interview, “I am very happy to be back [...] I’m glad I can help be a part of everything that goes on at Stuy.”
