  1. How did you get into running?

For most of my life, I have been unfit and overweight. After moving to the US, I just wanted to change myself for the better. Picking up running was a part of my weight loss process and trying a sport for the first time.

  1. What’s one thing you’d like to accomplish both individually and as a team?

I hope to break 17:30 at the Van Cortlandt 5K course and break 10 minutes for the 3200-meters later this year. Compared to myself, I see so much more potential in the younger runners on our team. I would love for Stuyvesant to become the City Champ again, even if not this year.

  1. In your four years on the team, what’s your favorite memory [from Cross-Country]?

Every team huddle. About five minutes before the race starts, we sprint out from the start line and the seven of us gather in a circle, shoulder to shoulder. Team spirit is always the highest during these moments.

  1. What’s one running pet peeve you have?

Sprinting for a short distance just to defend your position. If I’m in 10th place and you’re in ninth, just let me pass you… Stop wasting everyone’s energy and run your own race.

  1. What are your plans for running in the future?

Despite the number of races I have run, my top running priority has always been my health. While I don’t plan to continue running competitively in college, I will certainly run just for the benefit of it.
